纵轧是纵向轧制的简称，是被轧物体通过两个反向转动的轧辊得到加工的轧制方法，轧制时轧件通过辊面间缝隙向前运动，其运动方向与轧辊轴线垂直。生产过程实现自动化的目的是提高工件质量，用有限资源制造持久耐用的精美产品。纵轧是轧制中常见的一种轧制方法，横轧是轧件围绕自身中心线在轧辊间旋转，并且轧件旋转中心线与轧辊轴线平行，轧件只在横向受到压力加工的一种轧制的方法。

棒材精轧件后为什么要采用穿水冷却工艺？（1）提高了产品的力学性能；（2）减少了产品表面二次氧化损失；（1）切分孔型老化，切分孔出来的料在切分契尖处较厚，增加了切分刀的切分负荷。（3）穿水后，由于轧件温度低，刚度大，在冷床输入辊道上事故减少，轧件在冷床上冷却时塌腰弯曲减少，可以提高成材率和产品质量；（4）冷床长度可相应减少。
